At Our Land Publications we believe that introducing young students to history in a way that does not sour them on the subject for life is as important as teaching history itself. A big textbook full of facts and dates is intimidating to the most students and overwhelming to many. So how do we get the points across without boring the student to death? Bringing the subject to life and making it relevant to young readers without losing sight of the essentials can seem almost impossible. The process is made even more difficult by the short attention spans encountered in real world classrooms. In the results orientated, innovative, world of the Charter School it's clear we need a better solution.

Our Land Publications U.S. and state history curriculum solutions make the impossible possible by integrating textbook content into a newspaper format.

Newspaper-like headlines and articles highlight each issue. Historical events are presented as though they just took place. People are seen as living and real. History comes to life on a scale that students find interesting, instead of intimidating. These are not glorified activity sheets where “fun facts” are substituted for real learning. Interactive questions draw the student into the text, encourage the student to ask questions, and strive to create “teachable moments” between students and instructor. By the time the study is completed the student will have read the equivalent of a 120 page textbook without realizing it, laying the ground work for later studies in traditional textbooks. Written for fourth and fifth grade level readers, the programs have also been used successfully with upper level ESL and academically challenged students.

Each series includes 27 to 33 four page issues covering a specific time period. Issues are packaged in student sets ideal for small group or independent study, or in the classroom (sold in sets of 10 and 25). A thorough teachers manual provides comprehensive support for each series.

Our Land of Liberty covers the history of the United States from before European discovery to the current day and is targeted for the 5th grade. My State history programs for the 4th grade currently include My California, My Texas, My Indiana and My Illinois.
